Tips, Trends and Techniques Tuesday!

August 5th, 2011

thanks for delivering this story to me

Happy Tuesday everyone!Stacey here with a trend that I really love, but sometimes don’t think about doing to my pages very often. I love on multi-photo pages when there is a mix of color and black and white/sepia pictures! It really makes the page pop in the galleries and helps put a little extra detail into the photos!I had a quick browse through the Trixie Scraps gallery and found some awesome inspiration from the Scrap Stars, and Trixie herself! So be sure to try it on a future layout, and don’t forget to share it in Trixie’s gallery so we can leave you some love, and also help you be a Show Off!All Trixie Scraps Designs products can be found in the following online stores:Trixie Scraps Shop * Gotta Pixel * Scrapbook Bytes * Funky Playground

Wordy Wednesday

August 5th, 2011

does anyone know the real story

Happy Wednesday all, Shauna here to let you know what book we have selected for August.  I took the suggestion of the very special Bree and picked Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok.  I enjoy reading about different cultures, and I hope you do too.

Here is a synopsis of the book I found on GoodReads.

When Kimberly Chang and her mother emigrate from Hong Kong to Brooklyn squalor, she quickly begins a secret double life: exceptional schoolgirl during the day, Chinatown sweatshop worker in the evenings. Disguising the more difficult truths of her life—the staggering degree of her poverty, the weight of her family’s future resting on her shoulders, her secret love for a factory boy who shares none of her talent or ambition—Kimberly learns to constantly translate not just her language but herself, back and forth, between the worlds she straddles.

Through Kimberly’s story, author Jean Kwok, who also emigrated from Hong Kong as a young girl, brings to the page the lives of countless immigrants who are caught between the pressure to succeed in America, their duty to their family, and their own personal desires, exposing a world we rarely hear about. Written in an indelible voice that dramatizes the tensions of an immigrant girl growing up between two cultures, surrounded by a language and a world only half understood, Girl in Translation is an unforgettable and classic novel of an American immigrant—a moving tale of hardship and triumph, heartbreak and love, and all that gets lost in translation.

The flyer has all the important info on it.

I hope to see at our meeting!!!!!

Challenge Thursday – Picture Shapes

August 5th, 2011

great news thought i would never see this.

One of the best things about scrapping digital is that we can use layer masks to “cut” our photos into shapes without worrying about losing details that might be important later. That was one thing I struggled with as a paper scrapper – I never wanted to lose those background things like cars, houses, other people, and general details. Now I don’t worry because my original picture remains untouched!

When I really want to focus on one person I tend to “cut” the picture into a circle, like this layout made with Oceanside -

For this weeks challenge, show me layouts where you have “cut” your photos into a shape. Upload your page into the Trixie Scraps Gallery and link it up in the comments to be entered into our monthly drawing!

Here’s some other example pages from the Trixie Scraps Stars:

By Beth, using Lovey Days and Love Me Some White Space Templates, Vol. 3:

By Stacy, using Owl Always Love You:

By Jennifer, using Fishy Friends:

check out our ads below, they maybe of interest.

Hi everyone and welcome to another Make It Hybrid Monday. Today, I’d like to show you how you can take half a sheet of paper and use it to create a tent favor filled with your favorite treats. For this project, I used Trixie Scraps’ Mr and Mrs Mouse kit to create a fun tent favor in primary colorsTo start, you will need the following supplies:- 4.5 x 11 inch piece of patterned paper- Glue dots- Ribbon- Hole punch- Border punch (optional)- Bone folder for scoring (optional)Step 1: Take your 4.5 x 11 inch piece of patterned paper and fold or score with a bone folder at 2 inch, 6 inch, and 7 inch. If you’d like the flap of your tent to be a different color than the tent, then add a 2 x 4 inch rectangle over one end of your paper and fold at 2 inchesStep 2: Fold the scored lines over the unprinted side of your patterned paper to create a tentStep 3: Cut an opening .75 inches from all sides to create a rectangular opening. Use your border punch on the flap of your tent. if you would like a different edgeStep 4: Enclose your treats in a plastic bag and attach them to the inside with glue dots. Fold flap over, hole punch 2 holes in the center and string ribbon through to create a bowFour easy steps in creating a fun tent favor that can be personalized in lots of ways. August Blog Train Time!!

August 5th, 2011

more to read in our archives

Hi everyone! It’s time for a new 100-designer blog train… I always love participating in these fun blog trains and I hope you like what I made for you this month! For this train, we changed the way we did things just a little bit… we all worked with the same swatch, but each designer was allowed to choose their own theme. The result is a blog train with lots of things that will coordinate with each other, but aren’t so matchy-matchy that there are tons of duplicates. Cool, right??When I saw the swatch this month, it just said “70′s” to me… so, I created this little “Flower Power” mini kit for you – I hope you like it! Just click on the preview to download – and if you don’t mind, I love it when my blog train riders take a second to say hello or thanks!DOWNLOAD HERENow, for the nitty gritty… you likely came here from Chocolate Geranium Digital DesignsYour next stop is Dancing Princess DesignsAnd, don’t worry if you get derailed along the way – you can always visit the Blog Train Blog for a full list of all the stops.I hope you really enjoy the blog train this month – thanks for stopping by! ** Trixie ** All Trixie Scraps Designs products can be found in the following online stores:Trixie Scraps Shop * Gotta Pixel * Scrapbook Bytes * Funky Playground
